I believe all adults experience some form of trauma in life.  Although these experiences may not always check the traditional "trauma" boxes of threat of death or bodily injury, the experience of sexual violence, or the witnessing of such events, every life has been touched with some form of violence, loss, rejection, or abuse.  It is these stressful experiences that often shape and disrupt our ways of being in relationships with ourselves, our bodies, with others, and even in the ways we interact with our physical environment.  Shame, guilt, anxiety, depression, and a lack of connection frequently follow. Just as trauma often has a relational component, I also believe it is within relationships where we can find space to truly heal.

In the spring of 2009, I graduated with triple honors (National, Local and Psychology specific) from the University of Mary Washington with a Bachelors Degree of Science with a major in Psychology. In 2014, I graduated from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology  (MSPP), later named Williams James College, with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I was a graduate assistant to MSPP's writing center as well as a teacher's assistant in Projective Testing. I received training in school-based counseling, college-counseling, neuropsychological and academic testing, as well as community counseling  with an immigrant population.  Professionally, I have experience working in a residential facility for eating disorders, and in a group private practice where I provided neuropsychological and academic testing along with behavior-focused individual  therapy for adults, couples, and children.

Personally, I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I am inspired by the resilience of nature and how this reflects on the resiliency of life as a whole.  I find beauty in accepting nature as it is, without judgement, and it is this appreciation that I render when meeting with a new client.  We are all healing humans and I find beauty in the strength I see in my clients as they face adversity.  A perfect Sunday for me is taking a hike with my dog and playing a board game with my spouse.

How do I help?

Although I'm the trained professional, I believe my clients are the experts on their own lives. Each client comes with a unique set of genetics and experiences and I tailor my approach with this in mind.  I listen intently to past experiences and current content to capture a picture of a client's life. In doing so, I find the areas of strength and potential growth upon which we can build.

Developing a genuine caring relationship serves as the foundation of my therapy style wherein I introduce evidence-based tools to help manage symptoms.  I seek to create a warm, open environment where feedback is welcome so that together we can help you process the past in order to look towards the future.

I enjoy expanding on my clinical skills by regularly reading, networking and engaging in  trainings. Below you can learn a little more about some of the basic treatment modalities from which I draw.
